THE TEST OF TIME…
When we experience hardships in life, the pressures can cause many of us to become sick with depression and anxiety. It is at these times when we often struggle to get better on our own. But in times of despair like myself admitted into a hospital 30 years ago, it was in those times when my life changed for the better. The doctors were wise enough to know how to treat me and I got well again and back on track and the rest is history having reached a full recovery.
Nowadays I am content in my shell by just ‘being’.
I wish to share with you an ordinary day of beauty and the unknown.
IT STOOD THE TEST OF TIME……it was perfect, it belonged where it stood and was magnificent and had its own identity. Saint Augustine Church, hundreds of years old; a gothic, quaint church, nestled, or should I say surrounded by skyscraper’s in the inner city streets. I felt a sense of calmness and it was like standing in a country village looking at the gardens and lawn and quaint colourful flowers planted close around the edges of the stone church.
Entering for Sunday mass the people and priest gathered together and we joined in with them like one big family in the church. We sat down and listened and sang and it was such a spiritual experience to be part of and witness. I wrote this short poem to express what I felt:
A speck amongst high rises
But hidden it was not
A church of grace and worship
My eyes spilling tear drops
The priest so softly spoken
The strength that lay within us
Songs were sung to listen to
This man that we called Jesus
The priest then told a story
That many could relate
How we ever will survive
Not knowing our own fate
The message from that day
Was a message to us all
At church I heard the sacred words
Jesus is with us all.
Amen.
